The Brooke family ruled Sarawak for the following century as an independent state under British protection. Sabah was run as a protectorate by the British North Borneo Company from 1841 and Brunei became a British government protectorate in 1888.

I am trying to understand what Ramadhan month is all about, especially the last 10 days or nights.

Years in, years out, shopping frenzy is the name of the game in the last countdown for end of Ramadhan month which will be celebrated with Eidul Fitri or Hari Raya Aidil Fitri. Are we looking at Eid Fitr or Hari Raya like Christmas Day. Let's check it out whether we really understand the significance of Ramadhan and Eid Fitr or Hari Raya.

In this holy month of Ramadhan, people are taking the opportunities to be nearer to Allah SWT and devoting themselves to performing as much ibadah as possible.

Brunei Darussalam's Consumer Market

Not many of us care what the percentage of the population for "very poor", "poor", "getting by", "average", "working hard millionaires" or "sleeping millionaires".

You would be surprised most of us when asked "Are you doing ok?" would answer "OK" becasue they feel guilty of spoiling Brunei Darussalam's image of "High per capita GDP country".

Nobody knows what the real situation is right now. It all depends on who supply the information. It seems the majority are struggling for a living that nobody has the time to research on the standards of living in this country.

The consumer prices are in favor of the vendors. Nothing much is being done to protect the consumers from vendors' pricing. No ceiling price is set to protect consumers for items such as chicken and worse is, the cheaper sources are barred from entering the country. The businesses are instead being protected to set their prices causing hardships to the consumers.

Let us see until when the consumers will have a fair treatment.
